I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?
Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!
When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?
You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.
I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?
The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

I want to buy a new but affordable phone to DeGoogle it, which one should I get?
We at Android-Privacy.com we like the Xiaomi Redmi note 8/9, because of it’s great specs for a really low price. This low price mostly comes from all the bloatware that comes pre-installed on it, but we are going to get rid of that anyway 😉
I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?
No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).
How long is section 3?
Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

Er even voor gaan zitten om jezelf te bevrijden van BigTech
Ik heb eerst de telefoon een tijdje laten liggen omdat ik er wel tegenop zag om eraan te beginnen. Er was iets mis gegaan met mijn account waardoor ik steeds niet op het platform kon komen. Gelukkig werd ik goed geholpen daarmee, nadat er eerst een misverstand was dat het aan de server zou hebben gelegen. Bel rustig de hulplijn, je wordt echt goed geholpen! Om de telefoon in te richten moet je er echt even voor gaan zitten en de handleiding stap voor stap doornemen. En dan is het vooral een kwestie van keuzes maken. Ik ben meteen ook maar van alle social media afgegaan bijvoorbeeld.
De apps die ik graag gebruik, kon ik vinden op de appstores F-Droid en Aurora of een OS alternatief. Er is maar één -onbelangrijke- app die niet helemaal goed werkt op deze telefoon (zwemwater.nl).
Door het hele proces te doorlopen word je je nog meer bewust van wat je zelf wil en hoe BigTech je afhankelijk heeft gemaakt. En daar willen we natuurlijk graag van af! En dat kan, beter nu dan later, want het zal steeds moeilijker worden. Ik had gelukkig zelf weinig gegevens in de cloud staan. Ik merkte en passant dat ik wel heel veel oude accounts had bij allerlei bedrijven en diensten, die tot in de eeuwigheid blijven bestaan als je ze niet opzegt. En dat opzeggen is vaak nog lastig. Hiermee was ik meer tijd kwijt dan met het uitpuzzelen van de privacy phone. Het platform geeft nuttige informatie. Ik was vooral blij met de mogelijkheid mijn adressen te kopiëren. Met de agenda lukte dat helaas niet, daarom werk ik tijdelijk met twee agenda’s en kan ik mijn apple account pas na dit administratieve jaar opzeggen. Wat een opluchting zal dat zijn!
Het apparaat is verder prima, snel en functioneel.

Enkele weken geleden waren mijn vrouw Jayo en ik bij jullie in Utrecht om uitleg/hulp te krijgen voor het gebruik van de
nieuwe telefoons.
De uitleg die we kregen was helder, geduldig en jullie namen alle tijd eea uit te leggen. Soms een beetje verwarrend omdat wij met ons tweeën waren.

Ik had de telefoon mijzelf cadeau gedaan voor mijn verjaardag in november 2023. Ik heb door drempelvrees tot juni 2024 erover gedaan de telefoon in gebruik te gaan nemen. Heb een privéconsult aangevraagd. Ben uitstekend geholpen bij het instaleren. Maar ook telefonisch en online een topservice als ik nog vragen heb. Ze hebben kennis, geduld en nemen de tijd ervoor. Dat maak je heden ten dage niet altijd mee bij bedrijven.Zels ik kan nu als 60 plusser makkelijk uit de voeten met de telefoon.

Omdat ik het allemaal erg spannend vond een consult gepland bij Ernad. Top gast, weet op een duidelijk manier alles uit te leggen, dat het voor mij nog niet allemaal duidelijk is (dat ligt aan mij en niet aan hem) en ik in opvolgende telefoongesprekken met enorm veel geduld geholpen werd en wordt, geeft mij veel vertrouwen om met het nieuwe apparaat verder aan de gang te gaan.
