I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?
Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!
When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?
You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.
I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?
The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

I want to buy a new but affordable phone to DeGoogle it, which one should I get?
We at Android-Privacy.com we like the Xiaomi Redmi note 8/9, because of it’s great specs for a really low price. This low price mostly comes from all the bloatware that comes pre-installed on it, but we are going to get rid of that anyway 😉
I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?
No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).
How long is section 3?
Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.
How much time do I save?
Figuring all of this out on your own will probably cost you weeks. That’s why we created this course, so you can have digital privacy without the need to do all the research!

Weg met spionnen
Ik ben nog niet overal uit. De vingerafdruk heb ik al een paar keer ingevoerd, maar hij weigert hem te herkennen als hij nodig is. Mijn schermopnames of gedownloade afbeeldingen zijn meestal spoorloos verdwenen… Fijn dat F-Droid veel apps levert die open source zijn. Bij het installeren van apps is het wel uitkijken of ze niet samenwerken met Google Play, want dan doen ze het niet. Mijn Osmand routeplanner doet het zonder stem, want hij kan de weg naar de spraakmachine niet vinden. Kortom, nog een beetje behelpen. Ik moet mijn vragen nog eens aan de leverancier stellen, wellicht helpt hij me uit de sores. Verder werkt alles ptima. Oh ja, en bij Nextcloud krijg je meteen gratis een Ofice-programma, dus je hebt niets meer van doen met Google en Microschoft.

Even wennen
Het was in het begin even wennen als je iPhones en Samsungs gewend bent. Maar al snel slaat de gewenning toe en weet je niet beter. Grappige bijkomstigheid is dat ik sinds telefoon heb ook helemaal klaar ben met FB en Insta. WA is nog even lastig om afscheid van te nemen omdat al mijn klanten dit frequent gebruiken

Van iOS naar Graphene
Na het bekijken van de privacy tutorials, gebruiken en wennen aan de Graphene interface ben ik tot de conclusie gekomen dat het perfect werkt. Het heeft wat moeite gekost om alle applicaties draaiend te krijgen en metname bank applicaties. Uiteindelijk is dit gelukt door Google Play Store te installeren via de Sandbox methode. Dit was een werkbare oplossing maar nog niet erg gebruikersvriendelijk omdat er gewisseld moest worden van gebruiker. Na advies van Wesley is het gelukt om Google Play Store te installeren in het werkprofiel van de hoofdgebruiker, de truuk hierin is om de bestanden te downloaden via de browser in het werkprofiel en vanuit daar de installatie te starten. Een eerdere poging om Google Play Store te installeren bij de hoofdgebruiker en daarna te verplaatsen via Insular werkte niet. Nu werkt alles inclusief Google Camera.
