Welcome to the Android privacy course! In this course we will teach you everything about creating the best possible privacy setup on your Android device. Not only do we endorse privacy, but this course is build around a couple of key values: privacy, open-source software, freedom of speech, and if possible: decentralization.

The first part of the course is focusing on the violation of our privacy and the definition of privacy itself. Why would you even want or need it? Is it even possible to maintain your privacy in today’s day and age? Later on the course we will focus on solutions, without the need to go and buy a new phone. It’s even better: your phone will feel like it’s brand new! Better privacy also means more battery life. Gone with all the bloatware and tracking! I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?

Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!

When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?

You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.

I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?

The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

I want to buy a new but affordable phone to DeGoogle it, which one should I get?

We at Android-Privacy.com we like the Xiaomi Redmi note 8/9, because of it’s great specs for a really low price. This low price mostly comes from all the bloatware that comes pre-installed on it, but we are going to get rid of that anyway 😉

I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?

No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).

How long is section 3?

Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

How much time do I save?

Figuring all of this out on your own will probably cost you weeks. That’s why we created this course, so you can have digital privacy without the need to do all the research!

Voor iemand die niet zoveel heeft met de technische kant van telefoons en computers was dit wel even een uitdaging; wat gebeurt er als alles straks opnieuw vormgegeven is? Een nieuwe telefoon en, in mijn geval omdat ik nog een vrij nieuwe laptop had, een ombouw (d.w.z. alles eraf en Linux erop). Terwijl ik van Wesley het nodige uitgelegd kreeg heeft Ernad de beide apparaten klaar gemaakt. Dit ging vlot. Hierna nog een uur heldere uitleg door beiden, afgewisseld. Thuis mij verbaast over de veelheid aan gedocumenteerde duidelijke uitleg en de toepasbaarheid in de gebruiksaanwijzing op de site. Na alles doorgenomen te hebben ben ik nog een keer 2,5 uur bij Ernad geweest, die geduldig al mijn vragen verduidelijkte/oploste. Van weinig kennis met dit soort apparatuur naar groeiende interesse. Maar bovenal het gevoel van een vrijheid, er wordt geen informatie meer van je gewonnen om door te spelen aan anderen uit zakelijk gewin of controle. Alleen dat op het scherm wat jij wilt.

Als digibeet voelde ik me nog niet helemaal veilig.

Maar de kennis en kunde van Ernad was top: in een consult: dit wel, dat niet, oh dat installeer ik wel even….enz. superblij mee!!

Vakkundig geholpen bij het inrichten van m’n Pixel mobiel met GrapheneOS. Het is wat wennen als je ios gewend bent, maar daar ben ik uitstekend bij geholpen. Al mijn vragen werden uitgebreid en verhelderend beantwoord.

Tevreden het nieuwe jaar in met nieuwe tablet en mobiel

Vorige week ging in zeer tevreden naar huis met mijn nieuwe128 GB Pixel tablet -en mobiel. Al lange tijd nagedacht over een andere invulling v de Apple mobiel en tablet. Na lang beraad was het zo ver.

Zeer te spreken over de twee profielen ; Werkt uitstekend.Geldt ook voor de vele open source apps. Zo vind ik de navigatie v OsMand fraaier dan de Google evenknie.

Last but not least werd ik blij van de deskundige adviezen. Ik ervaar het als een unicum dat er zo goed de tijd wordt genomen voor uitleg en toelichting. Alle apps werden meteen geinstalleerd.

Kortom een aanrader voor een ieder die in 2025 de daad bij het privacywoord wil voegen.
