Welcome to the Android privacy course! In this course we will teach you everything about creating the best possible privacy setup on your Android device. Not only do we endorse privacy, but this course is build around a couple of key values: privacy, open-source software, freedom of speech, and if possible: decentralization.

The first part of the course is focusing on the violation of our privacy and the definition of privacy itself. Why would you even want or need it? Is it even possible to maintain your privacy in today’s day and age? Later on the course we will focus on solutions, without the need to go and buy a new phone. It’s even better: your phone will feel like it’s brand new! Better privacy also means more battery life. Gone with all the bloatware and tracking! I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?

Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!

When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?

You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.

I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?

The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

Can I get a refund?

I want to buy a new but affordable phone to DeGoogle it, which one should I get?

We at Android-Privacy.com we like the Xiaomi Redmi note 8/9, because of it’s great specs for a really low price. This low price mostly comes from all the bloatware that comes pre-installed on it, but we are going to get rid of that anyway 😉

I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?

No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).

How long is section 3?

Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

How much time do I save?

Figuring all of this out on your own will probably cost you weeks. That’s why we created this course, so you can have digital privacy without the need to do all the research!

Mooi toestel en systeem

Omdat alles werkt op Android, met een OS dat goed ondersteund, is de werking net zo goed/makkelijk als mijn “gewone” toestel hier voor.

Na een opstart via de video, één en ander op het afgeschermde island-gedeelte gezet, dus dat moet goed komen.

Eerst kon ik niet bellen, maar dat bleek een te voortvarend uitzetten van opties van mijzelf en is opgelost.

Ik krijg alleen geen notificaties van Whatsapp op het scherm (wat een reden om deze telefoon aan te schaffen was, omdat dit een veel gebruikte methode blijft, maar dan afgeschermd), dus daar moet ik nog achter komen.

Verder is die Pixel 6 een mooi toestel, geen problemen mee en daar kan ik nog wel een tijd mee vooruit, zeker met alle updates.

De ondersteuning is tot nu toe ook goed, al heb ik nog maar één vraag gehad en die is goed afgehandeld

Snowden phone ervaring

Na een paar weken gebruik kan ik vertellen dat ik heel erh blij ben met de smartphone. GrapheneOS is geen hele grote overstap vind ik als je Android gewend bent. Nu vond ik de introductie video soms wel iets te snel gaan want ik heb de indruk dat Wesley soms een tussenstap overslaat en dan vraag je je soms af hoe komt ie nu weer in dat scherm. Nu ben ik voldoende ervaren dat ik het scherm wel vind maar dat kan wel iets beter voor de beginnelingen.

Is eigenlijk de enige reden dat ik geen 5 sterren geef want verder is alles super geregeld. Als je wat videos hebt bekeken wordt het je wel duidelijk dat je de apps die in het privacy platform staan rustig op je personal space kan installeren en voor apps die daar niet bijstaan, je die het best op je eiland (werk omgeving) kan zetten. Het privacy platform is overigens duidelijk en ik vind er alle info dit ik maar kan wil.

Ik heb op dit moment geen ideeen ter verbetering maar ik ben dus super blij met mijn telefoon. Bedankt aan Wesley en zijn team!

Ik ontdek steeds meer mogelijkheden

Ik heb deze telefoon nog steeds niet in gebruik. Ik wil eerst alle ins en outs weten, daarom lees ik alles en bestudeer ik elke video. Ik zie de ontelbare mogelijkheden van deze telefoon en leer er steeds beter mee om te gaan. We zullen dit nodig hebben voor nu en in de toekomst.

Ik ben een super snelle iPhone 11 gewent, dus het is even wennen met het Android-systeem op mijn Pixel 7. Ik ben wel al twee weken bezig met het installeren, ik vorder langzaam door herhaaldelijk de video’s te bekijken. Een persoonlijk mondelinge ondersteuning zou mij wel helpen denk ik. Als die mogelijkheid er was desnoods tegen betaling zou ik er zeker gebruik van maken. Het toestel is prima, klein minpuntje is de batterij capaciteit die was met mijn iPhone beter. Overall ben ik tevreden dat ik de deze telefoon aangeschaft heb. En ik heb ook vertrouwen dat Wesley en zijn team er aan blijven werken om het systeem zo optimaal en veilig mogelijk te kunnen gebruiken. Bijzonder knap hoe zij deze telefoon met dit veilige systeem op de markt gebracht hebben.

Machtig mooi systeem

Heb de telefoon nu een paar weken in bezit. Graphene OS went vlug.

Bijzonder om er achter te komen hoe veel rechten je anders ongewenst aan Google geeft.

Ook het introductie-video werkt goed en is duidelijk.

Nu Windows nog inruilen tegen een Linuxdistributie.
