I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?
Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!
When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?
You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.
I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?
The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

I want to buy a new but affordable phone to DeGoogle it, which one should I get?
We at Android-Privacy.com we like the Xiaomi Redmi note 8/9, because of it’s great specs for a really low price. This low price mostly comes from all the bloatware that comes pre-installed on it, but we are going to get rid of that anyway 😉
I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?
No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).
How long is section 3?
Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.
How much time do I save?

Het was voor mij flink wennen bij de overschakeling met een ander denkstramien. Zelf ben ik niet erg technisch, mijn vriend gelukkig wel. We kregen vlot antwoord op vragen (telefonisch), vragen per mail idem. Voor een aantal dingen reisden we naar Utrecht, alles was zo gepiept. En ze hielden niet op te zeggen: heb je vragen: mail of bel ons, gewoon doen. Het zijn gedreven luitjes. Staan open voor op- en aanmerkingen, ook zij kunnen nog dingen leren. Platform, introductie, ze blijven schaven en verbeteren.

Snowden telefoon en geweldige begeleiding
Mannen van het eerste uur…(ook dames uiteraard als die er zijn)
Ik heb bijna een jaar een Snowden telefoon en voor een 67 jarige krullenbol, was het een enorme uitdaging die telefoon aan het werk te krijgen.
Eindeloos geduld en je hersencellen gebruiken. Maar ook een bepaalde onzekerheid, of je je beveiliging niet om zeep helpt met allerlei instellingen.
Ik ben met jullie handleidingen begonnen en ik zit inmiddels met een hele grote glimlach alle instructies te volgen.
Dit is voor dombo’s als ik een enorm feest.

even wennen - en daardoor ook inzicht gevend!
Deze Snowden telefoon is een fijne telefoon om mee te werken.
Door mijn nieuwe baan ben ik stap voor stap me aan het verdiepen in de werking van de telefoon.
Het geeft me absoluut een fijn gevoel, dat mijn telefoon weer van mij is.
De privacy die je er mee krijgt is absoluut een voorwaarde om als vrij mens je te kunnen bewegen in een wereld die steeds dwingender wordt. De handleiding is gebruiksvriendelijk, maar werkt net even anders dan anders. Het is met alles wat je nieuw wilt leren: je moet er even de tijd voor nemen en daarna gaat het als vanzelf. Een aanrader voor de bewuste mens!

Eerste ervaring
De telefoon zelf is prettig en niks op aan te merken, gewoon een android.
Het gebruik is wel even wennen, twee profielen en alles opnieuw installeren, daar ben je een tijd mee bezig.
Wat je wel krijgt is dat je meer inzicht krijgt in alle app s en trackers van de app.
Bij mij werkt alles nu en mijn werkprofiel kan ik aan en uit zetten wanneer ik wil.
Er zijn twee dingen waar ik nog mee zit en wat ik nog niet heb opgelost.
1. Bij betaling van een bestelling via mijn telefoon met ideal ziet de app niet mijn bank en kan ik niet betalen (denk dat dat ligt aan jet tor netwerk)
2. Bij parkeren ziet de parkeerapp. (Anwb, easypark ed) niet mijn locatie terwijl die wel aan staat.
Ik ik ben nog op zoek naar een alternatief voor facebook.
Al met al ben ik blij met deze telefoon en maak ook andere mensen geintresseerd en ik probeer steeds meer apps te gebruiken van F-droid.
