Welcome to the Android privacy course! In this course we will teach you everything about creating the best possible privacy setup on your Android device. Not only do we endorse privacy, but this course is build around a couple of key values: privacy, open-source software, freedom of speech, and if possible: decentralization.

The first part of the course is focusing on the violation of our privacy and the definition of privacy itself. Why would you even want or need it? Is it even possible to maintain your privacy in today’s day and age? Later on the course we will focus on solutions, without the need to go and buy a new phone. It’s even better: your phone will feel like it’s brand new! Better privacy also means more battery life. Gone with all the bloatware and tracking! I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?

Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!

When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?

You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.

I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?

The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

Can I get a refund?

I want to buy a new but affordable phone to DeGoogle it, which one should I get?

We at Android-Privacy.com we like the Xiaomi Redmi note 8/9, because of it’s great specs for a really low price. This low price mostly comes from all the bloatware that comes pre-installed on it, but we are going to get rid of that anyway 😉

I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?

No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).

How long is section 3?

Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

How much time do I save?

Figuring all of this out on your own will probably cost you weeks. That’s why we created this course, so you can have digital privacy without the need to do all the research!

Overstap van iPhone SE

Door de jarenlange gebruikerservaring met Apple producten is het instellen van deze telefoon wel een klus geweest. Aangezien veel data handmatig moet worden overgezet, bleek een leercurve van zo’n 2 dagen wel nodig. Soms is het uitwisselen van beeldmateriaal nog wat lastig tussen het werk- en privé account. Maar ik ben super tevreden met dit toestel, de instructie video was helder. Hier en daar is het soms nog puzzelen met diverse applicaties en instellingen, maar als gebruiker bepaal jij nu wanneer je jouw data afschermt of kortstondig openzet. De tijd is in ieder geval rijp voor afscherming van je privacy en dat kan alleen maar door dit soort initiatieven.

In eerste instantie een beetje huiverig maar toch de sprong in het diepe gewaagd. De telefoon werkt goed. De gescheiden omgevingen prive – werk is even wennen maar heel slim. Hopelijk werkt Orbot in de toekomst tegelijkertijd voor beide omgevingen, zonder te hoeven aan- en uitzetten. En Aurora heeft nogal eens moeite met verbinding maken.

De begeleidende video’s om te beginnen zijn echt heel fijn! Een echt minpunt vind ik het ontbreken van een lijst voor vervangende (privacy-vriendelijke) apps bij de aankoop. Vind ik persoonlijk een stukje service dat bij de aanschaf van de telefoon inbegrepen mocht zijn. Verder heel blij met de telefoon.

Goed product en goede service

Een eerste instantie was ik een beetje huiverig om te bestellen bij Android Privacy. Het was me allemaal een beetje onbekend, maar uiteindelijk heb ik het toch gedaan en daar heb ik geen spijt van!

De Snowden Smartphone werkt goed en werd zelfs met een klein kadootje geleverd. Alle belangrijke apps die via Google Play te verkrijgen zijn, werken ook gewoon op GrapheneOS en verklaarbaar via de Aurora Store. Voor een aantal andere apps zoals google maps of agenda zijn open source alternatieven beschikbaar. Op android-provacy.com videos met uitleg en alternatieve apps die worden aangeraden. Omdat bij het gebruik van GrapheneOS niet echt een handleiding zit, heb ik heeel veel vragen gemaild en gelukkig krijg je altijd en snel antwoord. Ook de service is top, want mijn adapter was stuk en dit werd ook snel gefixt.

Heel fijn dat mijn laptop omgezet is naar Linux. Weer super goed geholpen door Ernad, alle vragen weer beantwoord en hij is super behulpzaam. Fijn ook om met gelijkgestemden te babbelen. Alleen vergeten hoe ik Skylo (e-sim) van mijn proprivacy telefoon krijg, misschien kom je er nog even op terug. Goed dat jullie er zijn. Keep Safe and footprint free, nogmaals Dank.

Beste, eigenlijk is het beschamend dat ik nog steeds de telefoon niet heb overgezet. Privacy is het allerhoogste goed. Echter omdat ik digitaal zeer weinig achtergrond heb, heb ik hulp nodig en durfde het niet aan om alleen dit te doen. OP dit moment heb ik prive even ‘heel veel tabbladen’ openstaan.

Zodra ik meer hier over kan zeggen, bericht ik terug.
