The first part of the course is focusing on the violation of our privacy and the definition of privacy itself. Why would you even want or need it? Is it even possible to maintain your privacy in today’s day and age? Later on the course we will focus on solutions, without the need to go and buy a new phone. I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?
Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!
When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?
You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.
I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?
The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?
No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).
How long is section 3?
Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.
How much time do I save?

Deze telefoon is een stuk lichter in gewicht dan ik gewend ben en dat is uitstekend. Het veiliger besturingssysteem is al voorbereid, dat voor mij ideal was. Had wel moeite wegwijs te worden in het gebruik, maar digitale uitleg en door gebruik is dit verbeterd.
Al mijn Gmail account heb ik gewijzigd in tutanota en proton. Als ik veiligheid wil, dan gelijk doorvoeren in andere apps.
Ik heb het gevoel een stap voor te zijn op de komende digitalisering van voor mij ongewenste handelingen.

Prima telefoon
Was voor mij ook spannend om de telefoon te kopen maar ben daar wel hartstikke blij mee! Ik ben nu bezig met het naar eigen smaak verder indelen van de telefoon. Dit is niet altijd even gemakkelijk voor een digibeet als ik maar gelukkig kan ik al mijn vragen stellen en worden ze ook goed en altijd beantwoord. Ook de instructie videos vind ik erg handig en informatief! Het voelt gewoon goed om mijn nieuwe privacy vriendelijke online identiteit op te bouwen en big tech privacy schenders een dikke middelvinger te geven, geen dag te vroeg. Ga vooral zo door!

Overstap van iPhone SE
Door de jarenlange gebruikerservaring met Apple producten is het instellen van deze telefoon wel een klus geweest. Aangezien veel data handmatig moet worden overgezet, bleek een leercurve van zo’n 2 dagen wel nodig. Soms is het uitwisselen van beeldmateriaal nog wat lastig tussen het werk- en privé account. Maar ik ben super tevreden met dit toestel, de instructie video was helder. Hier en daar is het soms nog puzzelen met diverse applicaties en instellingen, maar als gebruiker bepaal jij nu wanneer je jouw data afschermt of kortstondig openzet. De tijd is in ieder geval rijp voor afscherming van je privacy en dat kan alleen maar door dit soort initiatieven.

Fijne telefoon en goede begeleidende video's om te kunnen beginnen.
In eerste instantie een beetje huiverig maar toch de sprong in het diepe gewaagd. De telefoon werkt goed. De gescheiden omgevingen prive – werk is even wennen maar heel slim. Hopelijk werkt Orbot in de toekomst tegelijkertijd voor beide omgevingen, zonder te hoeven aan- en uitzetten. En Aurora heeft nogal eens moeite met verbinding maken.
De begeleidende video’s om te beginnen zijn echt heel fijn! Een echt minpunt vind ik het ontbreken van een lijst voor vervangende (privacy-vriendelijke) apps bij de aankoop. Vind ik persoonlijk een stukje service dat bij de aanschaf van de telefoon inbegrepen mocht zijn. Verder heel blij met de telefoon.
