Welcome to the Android privacy course! In this course we will teach you everything about creating the best possible privacy setup on your Android device. Not only do we endorse privacy, but this course is build around a couple of key values: privacy, open-source software, freedom of speech, and if possible: decentralization.

The first part of the course is focusing on the violation of our privacy and the definition of privacy itself. Why would you even want or need it? Is it even possible to maintain your privacy in today’s day and age? Later on the course we will focus on solutions, without the need to go and buy a new phone. It’s even better: your phone will feel like it’s brand new! Better privacy also means more battery life. Gone with all the bloatware and tracking! I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?

Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!

When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?

You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.

I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?

The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).

How long is section 3?

Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

Top toestel, heerlijk dat je je ”werk omgeving” kunt uitschakelen. Rust in je hoofd, bespaart batterij en als je er logisch over nadenkt is het ook raar dat al die apps altijd maar aan moeten staan je en overal te volgen bent.

Geen advertenties meer of reclames als je wat heb opgezocht. Met mijn iphone was het zelfs zo dat als we het over olijfbomen hadden er later advertenties binnen kwamen over olijfbomen. Big tech…..

De instructies hadden iets duidelijker gemogen, maar Wesley gaf ook aan dat ze hier nog mee bezig waren dus dat gaat ongetwijfeld goed komen.

Ik wil nooit meer anders, Wesley en zijn team, hartelijk dank!

Ik heb de telefoon inmiddels een paar maanden. Ben er super blij mee. Eindelijk van google af en heb nu privacy, wat eigenlijk de norm zou moeten zijn. In het begin was het wat wennen met een andere lay-out en appstore. Ik ben a-technisch, maar de begeleiding was vriendelijk, geduldig en snel. Binnen korte tijd deed de telefoon alles wat ik wilde. Ook toen de telefoon even niet deed wat ik wilde, was de service snel en functioneerde de telefoon weer top. Kortom een telefoon geschikt voor iedereen!

In het begin was het voor mij erg zoeken met deze telefoon. Ik ben een tijd bezig geweest om ermee vertrouwd te raken. Alles is anders en ik liep tegen de nodige obstakels aan.

Op zich zijn de video’s duidelijk, maar deze gaan voor mij soms te snel. Als je niet opgegroeid bent met apparatuur is dit denk ook lastiger. Met syncthing kwam ik er echt niet uit, maar gelukkig kon ik via de mail al mijn vragen kwijt. Ik kreeg steeds duidelijke antwoorden/ instructies terug en zo ben ik heel goed op weg geholpen! Nu ben ik zover dat ik door heb hoe om te gaan met de telefoon en ben ik uiterst tevreden! De telefoon is geweldig en de ondersteuning is super! Zonder Wesley zijn hulp had ik het waarschijnlijk opgegeven, maar hoe vaak ik ook mail, ik krijg altijd netjes antwoord terug!! Het voelt nu heel fijn (en veilig) om deze telefoon te gebruiken, ik wil niet meer anders! Ik kan het iedereen van harte aanbevelen!

sneller nodig dan gedacht!

Al een paar maanden geleden kocht ik de Snowden smartphone. Dat was niet helemaal zonder reden. Ik weet dat ik vanwege mijn werk het risico loop te worden afgeluisterd. Ik breng best wel gevoelige onderwerpen naar buiten. Los daarvan vind ik dat iedereen het recht op privacy heeft, ook als je zogenaamd niets te verbergen hebt. Toch liet ik de telefoon een tijdje liggen omdat ik niet zo goed wist hoe ik hem in de praktijk moest gaan gebruiken. Ik was toch wel heel erg gewend aan mijn Iphone met open toegang tot social media, Gmail, youtube en andere functies. Maar ineens had ik mijn Snowdenphone sneller nodig dan gedacht. Een paar weken geleden werd mijn systeem gehackt van buitenaf, waarschijnlijk via Meta of Google. Al mijn apparaten, laptop en telefoon, lagen eruit. Zodra ik inlogde met mijn bestaande accounts op een ander apparaat begonnen de problemen opnieuw. Dus ik ben nu met een schone lei begonnen, met een nieuw nummer e-mail en alleen de Signal app. Ik ben super blij dat ik deze optie heb. Het voelt echt superveilig. En ook al is het even wennen, het is echt goed te doen qua functionaliteit. Momenteel gebruik ik zelfs alleen de privé omgeving en laat ik de werkomgeving nog even voor wat die is. Ik ga m sowieso aanraden bij al mijn vrienden! Veel succes met wat jullie doen!

Ben erg blij met de aanschaf van de Pixel 4A. Met recht een ‘smartphone’ voor mij! Even wennen als je van iPhone overstapt naar android, maar het idee achter deze telefoon maakte voor mij alles goed! Bovendien went het erg snel. TOP DUS! De ondersteuning is ook top en dat is zeker zo belangrijk.
