Welcome to the Android privacy course! In this course we will teach you everything about creating the best possible privacy setup on your Android device. Not only do we endorse privacy, but this course is build around a couple of key values: privacy, open-source software, freedom of speech, and if possible: decentralization.

The first part of the course is focusing on the violation of our privacy and the definition of privacy itself. Why would you even want or need it? Is it even possible to maintain your privacy in today’s day and age? Later on the course we will focus on solutions, without the need to go and buy a new phone. It’s even better: your phone will feel like it’s brand new! Better privacy also means more battery life. Gone with all the bloatware and tracking! I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?

Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!

When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?

You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.

I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?

The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?

No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).

How long is section 3?

Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

How much time do I save?

De Snowden ("take back control") phone: Veel meer dan een smartphone !

Toen de smartphone voor het eerst op de markt kwam kon je zeggen: “more than a mobile phone”. Van de Snowden phone zeg ik: “more than a smartphone”. De telefoon is tegelijk: 1) een technisch uitstekende (Google) smartphone met alle specs die daarbij horen, en de mogelijkheid alle veelgebruikte apps te blijven gebruiken; 2) het spiegelbeeld van een ‘spionnentelefoon’, namelijk een telefoon die voorkomt dat jij gevolgd wordt door ‘big tech’,overheid, bedrijven, etc.; 3) in combinatie met de instructie-video’s een geweldige les in hoe moderne smartphones werken en communiceren, en wat daar allemaal aan vastzit; 4) via toegang tot het Privacy Platform beschikking over een schat aan informatie over alternatieven voor veel privacy-gevoelige apps, oplossingen en achtergronden, en mogelijkheden tot interactie.

De introductievideo is zeer duidelijk, en bij vragen of problemen volgt snel antwoord. Overstap naar deze telefoon geeft het gevoel van een nieuw begin met meer grip op de digitale wereld en eigen keuze mogelijkheden (“take back control”). Alles bij elkaar een enorme eye-opener. Inmiddels is mijn partner ook zo enthousiast dat ze graag de overstap wil gaan maken van de iPhone naar de Snowden android. Alle lof voor Android-Privacy.com en deze hommage aan Edward Snowden.

The Snowden phones are an excellent initiative and solution against encroaching privacy violations. It does not take much time to get used to the Snowden phone for Android users. If support is needed the instruction videos are a good line of help and should this not be sufficient I have positive experience with additional email support.

Dit product een avontuur dat ik niemand wil onthouden!

Het toestel laat door zijn specifieke hard en software opbouw precies zien waar de gangbare smartphone en ook de computerfabrikanten hun verborgen trucjes hebben verstopt. De apps die je in de App F-Droid vindt zijn open software apps. Deze veilige apps installeer je in de Privé omgeving. De apps die je in App Aurora vindt zijn de gewone alledaagse, commerciële apps en deze installeer je in de Werk omgeving. De Werk omgeving kan je uitschakelen als je het niet nodig hebt en dat is ook aan te bevelen. De microfoon, camera en de locatie zijn ook uitschakelaar. Dat voelt relax! Ik ervaar het apparaat als erg praktisch en goed doordacht. De vier instructie- videos op de website zijn een welkome informatiebron om de werking van het systeem te begrijpen. Er komen binnenkort meer instructie-video’s bij. Als een vraag of probleem zich aanmeldt waar ik niet uit kom, dan heeft Wesley daar vaak een simpele oplossing voor. Dit alles is een heel andere ervaring dan de standaard voorgekauwde, voorgeprogrammeerde smartphone met beperkte mogelijkheden, waardoor je een robot wordt met op de achtergrond lekkende spyware. Kortom, voor mij is dit product een avontuur dat ik niemand wil onthouden!

Prima nazorg

Bij een mobiele telefoon mis je te vaak waar je de vraag voor snelle nazorg of hoe je iets moet of instellen moet plaatsen.

Dat is met dit bedrijf zeker niet het geval. Ze hebben een missie en die volbrengen ze op een fijne en prettige manier door ook alle informatie te geven die je nodig hebt.

Geen uren aan de lijn worden gehouden bij een helpdesk, geen dagen of weken wachten, maar een antwoordmailtje met een uitgebreid antwoord met net iets meer info dan je zou verwachten.

Dank voor de tot op heden verleende ondersteuning en blijf het zo doen. Mij heeft hun nazorg in ieder geval blij gemaakt.

Een veilig gevoel met horten en stoten

Het geeft een goed gevoel veel meer controle te hebben over wat ik met overheden en grote bedrijven wil delen.

De opmars naar “een snowden telefoon helemaal 100% gebruiken”” in het dagelijkse verkeer duurde bij mij ongeveer een maand

dit had te maken met de oude telefoon ontmantelen en functionaliteit stap voor stap migreren naar “Island” of “Mainland” op de nieuwe

Het is wel meer “gepuzzel” dan bij een standaards Andriod OS waar alles op een presenteer blaadje klaar ligt, voorlopig ga ik er van uit dat dit regelrecht te maken heeft met : als je het super gemakkelijk wil dan offer je je privacy op.

Nu ik eenmaal vertrouwd ben met de nieuwe omgeving ben ik zeer content.

Het enige dat bij mij nog niet goed werkt is : handsfree bellen met gebruik van de luidspreker. als je die inschakelt dan wordt de microfoon geblokkeerd en hoort de overkant niks.
