Welcome to the Android privacy course! In this course we will teach you everything about creating the best possible privacy setup on your Android device. Not only do we endorse privacy, but this course is build around a couple of key values: privacy, open-source software, freedom of speech, and if possible: decentralization.

The first part of the course is focusing on the violation of our privacy and the definition of privacy itself. Why would you even want or need it? Is it even possible to maintain your privacy in today’s day and age? Later on the course we will focus on solutions, without the need to go and buy a new phone. It’s even better: your phone will feel like it’s brand new! Better privacy also means more battery life. Gone with all the bloatware and tracking! I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?

Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!

When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?

You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.

I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?

The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

Can I get a refund?

We at Android-Privacy.com we like the Xiaomi Redmi note 8/9, because of it’s great specs for a really low price. This low price mostly comes from all the bloatware that comes pre-installed on it, but we are going to get rid of that anyway 😉

I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?

No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).

How long is section 3?

Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

How much time do I save?

Figuring all of this out on your own will probably cost you weeks. That’s why we created this course, so you can have digital privacy without the need to do all the research!

Het was even wennen om de microfoon in te schakelen tijdens een gesprek. Het is allemaal even anders, maar ben nu helemaal 1 met het toestel. Ik kan alles doen wat ik eerst ook deed. Privacy en veiligheid is zeer belangrijk. Het stuk over google op blue tiger studio, zet je wel aan het denken. Ik ben trots om hem in mijn bezit te hebben. Grote klasse 🙂

Oef, oef, even doorzetten

Mijn motivatie om niets van mijn privéleven ongemerkt meer te delen met allerlei bedrijven en overheden is groot. Mijn digitale kennis is basaal, en tot nu toe geënt op de gelikte en uiterst soepel lopende programma’s en mogelijkheden van Big Tech. Daar hoef je zelf nooit na te denken. Ik ontmantelde mijn oude telefoon en begon vol goede moed aan het installeren van mijn nieuwe Snowden Phone. Direct al merkte ik hoe je vast zit in allerlei digitale systemen zonder welke je je werk niet kunt doen, geen contacten kan maken, onthand bent. Zoals anderen ook meldden in de reviews is het even wennen; het is een andere manier van denken en handelen met deze phone. In mijn geval werkten er appjes niet zoals 2-staps autorisatie. Dat gaf enige paniek. Er was ook nog geen filmpje over. De filmpjes zijn wat mij betreft iets te snel en met te grote stappen; ik kan bijvoorbeeld niet goed bijbenen hoe er geswiped wordt. Ook heel belangrijk lijkt mij een goede uitleg over welke apps op het Island gezet moeten worden en of je dan Orbot uit zet of aan bij het installeren en wannéér je Orbot uit zet of aan. Dus misschien een stappenplan met volgorde. En het verschil tussen Aurora in je werkmodus of Aurora op je bureaublad. Het is even wennen dat je apps niet altijd soepel werken vanwege de VPN-modus (meen ik?). Er wordt geantwoord op de contactformulieren binnen 24 uur, maar 24 uur is lang als er niets werkt. Toch ben ik al met al tevreden, het was erg fijn dat ik je mocht bellen, Wesley! En dat je geduldig was waardoor mijn telefoon nu werkt. Verder wat betreft levering is alles in orde, alleen de zwarte stickers zaten er bij mij écht niet bij (minder belangrijk). Wel een mooi rubberen beschermhoesje!

Ik ben erg tevreden over de telefoon, waarmee ik nog moet leren om te gaan, het is mijn eerste smartphone! En ook heel erg tevreden ben ik over de service. Wesley is geweldig! Hij is er altijd voor mijn vragen die hij heel snel en compleet beantwoordt, zonder vaktaal die ik niet begrijp, ik hoop voor hem dat niet alle klanten zoveel vragen hebben als ik ;-). En het idee om de smartphone veilig en beschermd te kunnen gebruiken is echt heel fijn. Mijn vriendinnen hier in Frankrijk zouden ook graag een Snowdonphone willen, maar hebben niet zoals ik een Nederlandse vriendin die doorsturen kan, dus ik hoop dat versturen naar Frankrijk ook snel mogelijk zal worden. Ik wens Wesley heel veel succes met de ontwikkeling van zijn bedrijf!

Heb de telefoon nu zo’n 3 weken in bezit en deze werkt prima. Had wat kleine probleempjes maar deze zijn snel opgelost dankzij de goede service. Kan deze telefoon iedereen aanraden.

Ik heb geen verstand van technologie, maar weet wel dat privacy een zeer belangrijk issue is. Dus de Snowden phone gekocht. In het begin was het een beetje wennen maar met de geweldige ondersteuning van Wesley is het allemaal gelukt. Zorgen voor je privacy betekent in het begin dus iets meer moeite doen. Maar het doel heiligt de middelen in dit geval. Aanrader!
