Welcome to the Android privacy course! In this course we will teach you everything about creating the best possible privacy setup on your Android device. Not only do we endorse privacy, but this course is build around a couple of key values: privacy, open-source software, freedom of speech, and if possible: decentralization.

The first part of the course is focusing on the violation of our privacy and the definition of privacy itself. Why would you even want or need it? Is it even possible to maintain your privacy in today’s day and age? Later on the course we will focus on solutions, without the need to go and buy a new phone. It’s even better: your phone will feel like it’s brand new! Better privacy also means more battery life. Gone with all the bloatware and tracking! I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?

Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!

When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?

You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.

I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?

The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?

No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).

How long is section 3?

Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

How much time do I save?

Na ontvangst van telefoon( toch nog vlot ontvangen) aan de gang. Filmpje was redelijk duidelijk voor me . lastig is dat ik nog niet op de site kan komen voor extra info en uitleg.Daarom nog geen outlook en andere handige apps gedownload , app voor csmera , app voor t weer , enz. Natuurlijk wil ik niets verkeerds instaleren , enige uitleg zou handig zijn.

Verder werkt de telefoon uitstekend ( signal , zonder sim kaart , alleen op WF) natuurlijk wil ik meer gebruiksgemak. Enz. Toch sl erg tevreden mee , wek nog met vervolg dus.

De overgang naar deze telefoon viel me heel erg mee. Het is soms even wennen wanneer iets aan/uit staat. De enige app waar ik nu nog mee aan het worstelen is OsmAnd. Ik krijg ondanks alle pogingen die ik gedaan heb geen geluid uit die app. Dat is lastig met navigeren. Verder ziet het er prima uit.

Omzetten van oude apps was geen probleem. Was ook meteen een moment alle overbodige apps meteen op te ruimen.

Het is even wennen!

Heb nu ruim 2 weken mijn snowden phone binnen. Het configureren met behulp van de introductie video verliep zonder problemen. De introductie video gaat soms wel wat snel, maar terugkijken helpt. Het is wel even wennen, maar het geeft wel rust en je gaat nu veel functioneler en bewuster om met je telefoon.

De telefoon is netjes en compleet thuisbezorgd. Alleen was het handig geweest, als vooraf was aangegeven, dat Google geen lader bijlevert, maar na een bezoekje aan een telefoonwinkel was dit snel opgelost en had ik mn lader. Ook mooi, dat de telefoon is voor-geinstalleerd, scheelt een hele hoop gedoe. De telefoon ziet er verder gelikt uit.

Vooraf geef ik aan dat ik niet echt digi onderlegd ben, dus bij problemen kijk ik eerst naar mezelf. Bovendien ben ik al vele jaren een Iphone (ios) gebruiker, dus is het ff wennen aan de androidsoftware.

Ik moet dus een beetje wennen aan de nwe Android Snowdenphone. Ben nog steeds dingen aan het uitzoeken/uitvinden. En ik ga steeds meer ervaren, dat het toestel best wel gebruiksvriendelijk is. Gisteren heb ik stuk voor stuk al mijn contacten vanuit mn Iphone in de nwe telefoon geklopt. Heel werk, misschien had het makkelijker gekund, dat ligt dan zeer waarschijnlijk aan mij. Ik heb de introductievideo met uitleg tweemaal bekeken, hier wordt duidelijk de werking uitgelegd. Maar zoals eerder aangegeven, ik ben “slow” op digigebied, dus met sommige technische termen heb ik soms moeite. De service vind ik prima. Ik ben dus nog druk bezig met de overgang van de ene naar de andere phone. Misschien wel een nuttig idee, om de gebruikers/nieuwe eigenaren van de Snowdenphone in dezelfde postcode omgeving met elkaar in contact te brengen, om elkaar te helpen bij bepaalde handelingen, wanneer dat wat probleempjes mocht geven. Maar nogmaals, tot nu toe goeie ervaringen en veel uitproberen maar. Sowieso geen spijt van mn nieuwe aanschaf, blij mee.

gedeelde smart is een onvrije wereld

ik heb nu zo’n 4 jaren een apple iphone gebruikt en alle data van me af laten stelen. Voelt alsof ik bij de AA sta met de billen bloot hoe stom ik ben geweest. Ik leer, ben er nog niet, leer iedere dag bij. Vanaf nu ga ik het anders doen. Met de hulp van de medewerkers van Android Privacy hoop ik veel te leren over hoe om te gaan in de vrije digitale wereld met alle sporen die ik overal achter laat. Het is in ons aller belang dat we hier anders mee om leren gaan opdat we een vrije wereld houden. Des te centraler de digitale macht des te onvrijer onze wereld lijkt te kunnen gaan worden. Hoe meer Snowden telefoons om onze data veilig te houden des te vrijer onze wereld zal zijn. Mijn data,mijn zaak. Big Tech bedrijven hebben de laatste 20 jaar het brood van onze tafel gegeten en zijn daarmee de grootste bedrijven geworden in de wereld. Door data te stelen,.. mijn data,zonder mij er ook maar iets voor te geven. Dat kan anders, alleen moet ik me meer gaan verdiepen in hoe daarmee om te gaan want dat gemak, die lakse houding, daar krijgen we een zeer onvrije wereld van. Dus aan de bak!
