Welcome to the Android privacy course! In this course we will teach you everything about creating the best possible privacy setup on your Android device. Not only do we endorse privacy, but this course is build around a couple of key values: privacy, open-source software, freedom of speech, and if possible: decentralization.

The first part of the course is focusing on the violation of our privacy and the definition of privacy itself. Why would you even want or need it? Is it even possible to maintain your privacy in today’s day and age? Later on the course we will focus on solutions, without the need to go and buy a new phone. It’s even better: your phone will feel like it’s brand new! Better privacy also means more battery life. Gone with all the bloatware and tracking! I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?

Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!

When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?

You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.

I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?

The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?

No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).

How long is section 3?

Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

How much time do I save?

Ik ontdek steeds meer mogelijkheden

Ik heb deze telefoon nog steeds niet in gebruik. Ik wil eerst alle ins en outs weten, daarom lees ik alles en bestudeer ik elke video. Ik zie de ontelbare mogelijkheden van deze telefoon en leer er steeds beter mee om te gaan. We zullen dit nodig hebben voor nu en in de toekomst.

Ik ben een super snelle iPhone 11 gewent, dus het is even wennen met het Android-systeem op mijn Pixel 7. Ik ben wel al twee weken bezig met het installeren, ik vorder langzaam door herhaaldelijk de video’s te bekijken. Een persoonlijk mondelinge ondersteuning zou mij wel helpen denk ik. Als die mogelijkheid er was desnoods tegen betaling zou ik er zeker gebruik van maken. Het toestel is prima, klein minpuntje is de batterij capaciteit die was met mijn iPhone beter. Overall ben ik tevreden dat ik de deze telefoon aangeschaft heb. En ik heb ook vertrouwen dat Wesley en zijn team er aan blijven werken om het systeem zo optimaal en veilig mogelijk te kunnen gebruiken. Bijzonder knap hoe zij deze telefoon met dit veilige systeem op de markt gebracht hebben.

Machtig mooi systeem

Heb de telefoon nu een paar weken in bezit. Graphene OS went vlug.

Bijzonder om er achter te komen hoe veel rechten je anders ongewenst aan Google geeft.

Ook het introductie-video werkt goed en is duidelijk.

Nu Windows nog inruilen tegen een Linuxdistributie.

Meer dan een nieuwe mobiele telefoon

De aanschaf is ook de start in het gebruik van mobiel en internet op een privacy vriendelijke manier, dus het gaat stap voor en met veel overwegingen (Ik ben zestig en heb het druk, jammer genoeg :). Hoe ver moet ik gaan, wat kan ik wel doen, waar zit het verlies van privacy.

Mooi operating syteem, prettige layout, etc. Fijn in het gebruik.

Heb moeite om in de aurora store apps te vinden en met het openen van een sessie en wat andere dingetjes. Ik moet whatsapp en signal nog registreren, want SMS is niet beschikbaar (ter verificatie).

De overstap van een iPhone met cloud gebruik bij alle Big Brothers, naar een meer lean en mean gebruik van “internet” is nog in volle gang.

Nog niet alles lukt, dus heel blij met de komst van Ernad, hoewel ik super onder de indruk ben van Wesley, werkelijk mooie en duidelijke uitleg.

Blij deze stap genomen te hebben. Heb voor mezelf nog wat vragen, bijvoorbeeld, “wordt mijn iphone een mobieltje voor alleen zakelijk gebruik, zodat ik gebeld kan worden?” ” Wil ik altijd, waar ik ook ben, al mijn werk apps (Teams, Sharepoint, werk Email, etc) onder hand bereik hebben?” Of moet ik mijn digitale leven eenvoudiger inrichten?

Hoe zit het met gebruik van laptop? Ik ga me blijvend verdiepen in digitale privacy.

lekker rustig

heerlijk mijn nieuwe telefoon, ik ben er eens even goed voor gaan zitten, ik had enige angst om eraan te beginnen. ik ben niet zo’n ict wonder zeg maar. ik denk dat ik de video een x of 10 bekeken heb in totaal. but i didt it! best trots op me zelf. ik kreeg het advies om klein te beginnen ik kon dan altijd nog voor een grotere en snellere gaan. dit heb ik in de wind geslagen en ben gewoon voor de pixel 6 pro gegaan, je went er maar aan dacht ik. en het went snel kan ik vertellen en wat ben ik er blij mee. ik ga gerust op pad wetende dat ik iedere winkel in kan gaan zonder dat ik bang hoef te zijn dat ik gevolgd wordt of wat dan ook. aangezien ik onbeperkt internet heb staat wifi eigenlijk standaard uit. oke orbot is wat langzaam maar komt er ook. facebook instagram staan er niet op die heb ik nog op mijn oude telefoon en die ligt altijd thuis. en dat is wel eens even saai inderdaad als je ergens moet wachten maar ook lekker rustig. new pipe is wel een goede vervanger van you tube dus vermaak ik me wel mee. Android was mij al bekend dus het besturen was geen enkel punt. alles in de Fdroid store is een goede vervanger. Het bijgeleverde beschermplaatje past helaas niet aangezien de telefoon afgeronde kanten heeft. wat ik hier op het platform eigenlijk wel mis is een forum waar gebruikers elkaar kunnen helpen en tips en adviezen kunnen delen. maar misschien komt die er in de toekomst nog wel eens. ik ben in ieder geval een zeer tevreden gebruiker!
