I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?

Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!

When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?

You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.

I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?

The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

We at Android-Privacy.com we like the Xiaomi Redmi note 8/9, because of it’s great specs for a really low price. This low price mostly comes from all the bloatware that comes pre-installed on it, but we are going to get rid of that anyway 😉

I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?

No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).

How long is section 3?

Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.

How much time do I save?

Proprivacy maakt waar wat ze beloofd. Ook een prettige en heldere service! Laagdrempelig, duidelijk en begrijpbaar.

Bittere noodzaak voor iedereen vandaag de dag, die een telefoon bezit en begrijpt dat dit een GPS stralings tracker is, die eigenaar is van alle audio en beeld opnames die jij maakt (Apps)….. en tevens alle biometrische gegevens, dat heet nu AI. Hoe veilig kun & wil je zijn?

Het valt even niet mee om je de pro-privacy mindset je eigen te maken, nadat je jarenlang dacht dat Apple spullen de (MacOS en IOS) de crème de la crème waren. Maar door de heldere dokumentatie en de instrukteurs op het kantoor van Proprivacy werd ik vakundig in die nieuwe digitale belevingswereld ingeleid, en voelt het als een nieuw avontuur. De 5 sterren slaan met name op de service. Ik ben zelf niet bijdehand qua technologie voor m’n telefoon en alles wat daarbij komt kijken, maar zowel de hulp online als fysiek op afspraak bevalt me uitstekend. De gedane aanpassingen en updates e.d. had ik zelf niet zo makkelijk kunnen uitvoeren. Toch zal ik wat vaker het platform raadplegen, deze is niet voor niets zo uitgebreid opgeteld! Slagroom op de taart zijn trouwens de podcasts; heel nuttig en leerzaam en met de juiste toon (humor!) gebracht.

Voor iemand die niet zoveel heeft met de technische kant van telefoons en computers was dit wel even een uitdaging; wat gebeurt er als alles straks opnieuw vormgegeven is? Een nieuwe telefoon en, in mijn geval omdat ik nog een vrij nieuwe laptop had, een ombouw (d.w.z. alles eraf en Linux erop). Terwijl ik van Wesley het nodige uitgelegd kreeg heeft Ernad de beide apparaten klaar gemaakt. Dit ging vlot. Hierna nog een uur heldere uitleg door beiden, afgewisseld. Thuis mij verbaast over de veelheid aan gedocumenteerde duidelijke uitleg en de toepasbaarheid in de gebruiksaanwijzing op de site. Na alles doorgenomen te hebben ben ik nog een keer 2,5 uur bij Ernad geweest, die geduldig al mijn vragen verduidelijkte/oploste. Van weinig kennis met dit soort apparatuur naar groeiende interesse. Maar bovenal het gevoel van een vrijheid, er wordt geen informatie meer van je gewonnen om door te spelen aan anderen uit zakelijk gewin of controle. Alleen dat op het scherm wat jij wilt.
