Hi there! Great to see you signed up for the Android Privacy video course! My name is Wesley, and I’ll be guiding you through this course, where we will create the best possible privacy setup on your Android device. Although privacy is the most important key value of this course, it is build around a few different key values. Privacy, being open source, and promoting freedom of speech (so no censorship) are the main key values of this course. Are you looking to change your digital life into a life in which you support these values? Then I wish you a warm welcome.

I’d like to start saying that this course is for everyone, no matter how bad your knowledge of the internet, computers and technology is. Privacy is a basic human right and so my belief is that this should be available for everyone.

In this modern day and age, privacy is something that has disappeared. You’ve probably heard people say things like “you don’t have privacy anymore”, while their face expression tells you it’s a lost case. Well.. I’m hear to tell you that’s not the case, but privacy is not just some on/off switch, there are a lot of different variables coming into play.

In this course I will be explaining what those variables are and how we can implement this knowledge into a new technical setup on our Android phones. As we’re talking right now developers worldwide are working on tools that have the ability enhance your privacy seriously. In section three we will go through these tools. I will explain which ones to download, how to set them up and how to use them. We will also go through the apps you are currently using and which apps are perfect privacy friendly replacements.

In the first section I will explain to you what privacy exactly is, why you should care about it and how it gets violated by big tech companies and governments BIGTIME right now. Most people think that the public and private domains are separated, but they are actually melting into each other by increasing privacy-violating laws that are giving governments more and more rights to look into the private details of our life. Later on in section 2, we will go through the exact problems we have on our Android phones.

For now, let’s dive into the exact definition of privacy and why it’s a basic important human right. See you in the next lesson!
